Great Bear Rainforest

We are honoured to have had the opportunity to explore the traditional territory of the Nuxalk & Ulkatcho First Nations since 2020.

Bella Coola has the largest coastal temperate rainforest in the world: over 16 million acres! The area’s incredible biodiversity is protected to maintain its ecological integrity, including 1,000-year-old spruce and cedar trees. An environment that allows its brown bear population to flourish.

The images of brown bears captured below were created as we floated down the Atnarko River and while sailing the Burke Channel, surrounded by coastal fjords, glaciers and mountains.

These images would not have come to fruition without the knowledge, expertise and efforts of our Nuxalk friends: Roger, Felicia, Isaac, Kurt, Russell, Keshia, Sequoia and our local field guides: Fraser, Justin, Haydin, Josh and Molly.
